THE HYDE PARK BARRACKS MUSEUM IN AUSTRALIA: A PRISON OR A HOME?

For more than a century, the British government used to send male prisoners to Australia in order to inhabit that huge, desert continent. It took from four to eight months to sail from England to Sydney. When the prisoners arrived in Sydney, they were sent to the first prison to start their new life. This building is now a museum where you can see and read the lives of the convicts until they became free and inhabited Australia. Read this chapter of the Australian history here. In the photos shown here, you can also read the posters and documents in this museum. Remember to look at the number of the photos to read them in order.
